Built by Moshe Hogeg. A fun side experiment — built for the joy of it.
In 2020, I had a really weird dream: a writer asked me to build a store that sells words. I woke up thinking it was one of the stupidest dreams I’d ever had — and then I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Owning “love”. Owning “bitcoin”. Owning your kid’s name.
I’ve had good luck with dumb ideas before. In 2014 I built the Yo app — it hit #1 on the US App Store, Marc Andreessen and Elon Musk downloaded it and tweeted about it, and Silicon Valley dedicated an episode to it.
The idea sat in a drawer for six years. OneWord is the dream with a twist that makes it a market instead of a bonfire: either you keep the word — or you profit. If someone takes your word (by paying at least 10% or $5 more), the smart contract pays you back everything you paid plus half the upside — atomically, in the same transaction. If nobody does, the word is yours. Forever. Words also earn weekly rewards from site revenue and views.
The kicker: the entire site — smart contract included — was built in about an hour by AI agents on joni.ai, over a weekend, mostly from voice notes. The Yo app took me eight hours back in 2014. This took less than one.
